Recruiters can play an important role in your job search, but you need to ensure that you are working with the best recruiter for your situation. Even if the recruiter contacts you unsolicited (which is always flattering), take the time to do your research:

• Does she specialize in your industry and your area of expertise?
• How long has he been in business?
• Does she have strong relationships within the companies that you want to target?
• Does he have a record of success in your field?

Ask a lot of questions. The ideal recruiter/jobseeker relationship is built on mutual trust and respect. And if you find a great one, be sure to refer her to your friends and associates.
