Week #24.2
Be a Stellar Candidate — Use S.T.A.R.
Behavioral style interview questions can trip up even the most qualified candidate. Be prepared. Use the S.T.A.R. method to prepare for your interview:
- S — Situation. Be prepared to describe a situation related to the question. Perhaps a challenging project or corporate strategy shifts. Be specific.
- T — Task. What was your responsibility in the situation? Sales goals, deadlines, margin reduction?
- A — Action. Explain what you did. How did you meet the challenge? How did you overcome obstacles?
- R — Results. What was the outcome? How did your actions positively contribute to the company? What did you learn and how would you change your approach next time?
Remember the S.T.A.R. acronym in your next interview. It will help you tell your story concisely and persuasively.
