To keep your job search private, you need to be cautious about your social media networking efforts. The first thing you must do when considering a career move is update your Linkedin profile. This is the first place recruiters look when you apply for a job. Before you make any changes to your profile:

  • Under the “Me” heading in the toolbar click “Settings and Privacy.”
  • Scroll down to the “How Others See Your Linkedin Activity” section.
  • Next to the “Share job changes, education changes, and work anniversaries from profile” make sure the toggle button is set to “NO.”

Now when you update your information no one in your network will be notified (including anyone in your current workplace). If someone happens to search on you in Linkedin and comments on your updates, simply tell then that you are keeping current for any external associates or customers that may be utilizing Linkedin.
