Interview Attire – Dress to Impress, Not to Overwhelm

Research shows that first impressions are made in just a few seconds – manage the first impression to increase your odds of getting the offer:

  • Determine standard business attire for the company: ask someone that works there or ask the person that sets up the interview. There is a vast difference between a corporate law firm and an ad agency.
  • Save the bright colors and crazy patterns for another purpose – this is not the time to make a style statement.
  • Less in more – subtle accessories, simple/clean bags or briefcases, and minimal perfume or aftershave.
  • Makeup, hairstyles and fingernail colors need to be professional.
  • Take a final look in the mirror before your interview. Are you buttoned up? Is the hair and make-up perfect? And smile!
